Project 4

Project 2 revision On October 25, 1938, the United States Congress passed the Fair Labor Standards Act, which established the first mandated minimum wage. The first wage was set at $0.25 per hour, which equates to $4.55 in 2020 with inflation (2009). In 2020, the federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. While states have manipulated this wage to fit cost of living, $7.25 is the federal law (2020).             Since 1938 the minimum wage has been increasing not only with inflation but to accommodate peoples wants for higher pay for work. In 2020, the mainstreamed new standard for minimum wage, which was set by the political left, is $15 per hour. The left proclaims that this is a “living wage” and allows people to not have to work as much to provide for themselves and their family. The political right is split between abolishing the minimum wage or keeping it the same. They claim that an increase in wages would consequently cause...

Final Submission

The picture on the table of contents was too generic and did not have any action, and I was planning to meet with Carson (the person in all of the pictures) to have another shoot in which I could obtain more photos of him playing. I was hoping to ask him a couple more questions and put more quotes from him into the article. The question I planned to ask were "If golf does not work out, what do you plan to do", "Where do you see yourself in 10 years?" and "What professional golfer/ person do you look up to?". These would have created a friendly interaction that the audience could relate ...

Creative Critical Reflections Question #4

"How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?" The technology was used in almost every part of the creation of my magazine and blog posts. I used the standard computer that they supply us with at school for the majority, and at home I used my HP laptop. This is where I created the magazine and edited the blog posts from. Both computers were very high quality and made it easy to edit my magazine and blog. Blogger.com and Canva.com were the websites used specifically for the blog and magazine creation. They were both free to use and were easily accessible from the computers I was using. I used my iphoneX to take the pictures. I made sure that I took several photos at every position to ensure that the quality of the picture was high and looked professional. It is also how I organized the photo shoot and interviewing arrangements with Carson and his family, which is the person I write about in my article. I did not have any graph...

Creative Critical Reflections Question #3

"How did your production skills develop throughout this project?" The beginning of the magazine required creative design, to find a format to make my magazine pages. This was to fit the pictures and text in the pages, without making it too crammed, and able to make the pages look professional. I then planned out the interview and the location, photo shoot, and person to do those with. I used my Iphone X to take these photos, and the location was chosen because of the scenery around the golf course and the golf course itself. After the photo shoot, I then interviewed Carson and his parents, asking them each several questions. I then organized the interview context into a story, and created a article that incorporated statistics, a story, and interviews to help the story flow. I then chose the pictures that were of the highest quality and captured the action I was looking for the best. The magazine was then created using these pictures and the article that I wrote. I chose ...

Creative Critical Reflections Question #2

"How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?"     The audience engages with my magazine because of the stories and information that is provided. The stories are about local and professional sports and all sports are included. The audience engagement research posts have shown me that my magazine is similar to many other magazines that are successful, that they target a specific group of people, yet people outside of the targeted group are still interested in purchasing the magazine. I also realized that starting local and then spreading out further with distribution and advertisement is better than immediately going regional, because it can grow interest and popularity without wasting unnecessary money on advertisement.  My marketing plan is to use social media, such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and twitter, along with local newspaper and magazines to advertise. I will allow direct orders and yearly s...

Creative Critical Reflection Question #1

"How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?" This magazine is a very unique magazine that goes after a specific group of people, but at the same time anybody can be interested in the magazine as it is a magazine that is very unique. It challenges usual magazine conventions because not only is it an all sports magazine, it also gives stories on local sports, state-wide sports and professional  sports, and it gives advice to any/everyone reading the magazine on any given sport. It is targeting those who want to hear about local sports, but that is only about 1/4-1/2 of the magazine, and the rest is filled with other useful sports information.  The camera shots are very high quality, and are usually action shots, to let the reader experience the action through the page. If the shots were not action shots, then it would be boring and not as fun to read. The whole point of a sports magazine is too show the sports bein...
